- A young person was arrested following a search warrant and stolen items were recovered.
- Community vigilance and securing vehicles can help reduce crime and theft incidents.
Police are advising Clutha residents to secure their vehicles after a rise in thefts. This reminder comes after a search warrant was executed in Milton, leading to the arrest of a young person believed to be responsible for multiple vehicle thefts.
“Unfortunately, there are people out there willing to benefit from crime, but yesterday’s work shows the commitment of Police to stopping those individuals,” said Sergeant Tim Coudret of Clutha Police. He added that thanks to community support and enquiries, the person believed responsible was identified.
During the search, various stolen items were recovered, and Police are now working to return them to their rightful owners. A 17-year-old is set to appear in the Dunedin Youth Court soon.
Police are urging locals to take extra precautions, such as locking their vehicles, removing valuables from view, and parking in well-lit areas. “We would like to ask the community to look out for each other and if you see any suspicious activity happening, please contact us on 111 immediately.”
