On Wednesday evening Invercargill City Councilors at an Extraordinary meeting to vote on the Wastenet tender recommendations to accept the new tender offer from an outsider.

Wastenet is a joint venture between all three regional councils Gore, ICC and Southland District Council, meaning all three councils get an equal vote.

Due to a hung vote Mayor Tim had the casting vote and he voted to oppose the Wasntet recommendations, supporting (SdE) Southland Disability Enterprises.

Those city councillors in favour of Wastenet recommendations for the tender to dump SDE were:

  • Bec’s Amundsen
  • Alex Crackett
  • Loyd Esler
  • Darren Ludlow
  • Lindsay Thomas

Those city councillors and mayoral candidate opposed to Wastenet recommendations for the tender and keep the contract with SDE were:

  • Lindsay Abbot
  • Alan Arnold
  • Toni Biddle
  • Graeme Lewis
  • Ian Pottinger (was overseas, but abstained due to close assoc with SdE)
  • Mayor Tim Shadbolt

It was a hung vote so as Mayor he had the casting vote and voted to oppose the Wastenet recommendations.

Councillors Pottenger, and Soper didn’t vote due to close association to SdE family/staff.

Councillor Karen Arnold resigned and left in a huff before the vote.
