There will be Christmas decorations and secret Santa stocking fillers at this weekend’s Crafters At Latitude 46 market.

Everything crafty is celebrated at the event, which has been held twice a year in Invercargill for the past decade.

Committee member Wendy Butler said they offered two quite distinct markets each year - the first one in April focused on birthdays and Mothers’ day, while this one was more geared towards Christmas.

The committee will be running 71 stalls at Onslow Street this weekend, and while this wasn’t a market focused on food, there would be one business offering good old fashioned baking and sandwiches.

Wendy and her mother have been producing their own knitting and crocheting at markets for the past 45 years, but she’s pleased there will be some new talent this year too.

One young man will be showcasing his metal work using a laser cutter, and there will also be a few ladies doing resin work.

“It’s just something different and a little bit more personalised.”

A face painter is coming to the markets for the first time, which will be nice for the kids, and a local artist complete with all her gear, will be producing some new art onsite as part of a giveaway.

Wendy said oven mitts were popular at the moment, and make great office Christmas gifts for that end of year party.

“We seem to sell out of everything, every time we have them.”

The market has supported the Cancer Society, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Hospice Southland with some of its proceeds in the past.

Pop along for a look - the market is open both Saturday and Sunday from 10-4pm.
