A brand new Indian Scout Motorcycle will be among items to go under the hammer during a major charity auction to benefit Hospice Southland in August.
The auction event, being organised and promoted by Invercargill retailer E Hayes and Sons is being held to mark the 50th Anniversary of Burt Munro’s Speed Record on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA.
On August 26, 1967, Burt Munro claimed the world record for a Class S-A 1000cc motorcycle with an average speed of 184.087mph. It’s the record that gave rise to the legend of The World’s Fastest Indian.
“The E Hayes name and store has long been considered home to the legacy of Burt Munro and we are proud to be celebrating his record in this way,” E Hayes managing director Neville Hayes said.
“We wanted to produce an event which reflects our strong community focus and one which will hopefully create a result everyone involved can be really proud of.”
A major auction draw-card is the brand new 2017 Indian Scout 1133cc V-twin motorcycle; along with other items including a customised Indian motorcycle apparel; a customised motorcycle helmet; a signed cookbook from celebrity chef Nadia Lim; boxing gloves signed by Joseph Parker and a KitchenAid Artisan Food processor, to name a few.
Tickets are $10 each and will be available from E Hayes and Sons’ Dee St store from May 1. The auction will be held at the Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill on Saturday, August 26 from 5pm to 7pm. All proceeds from the auction and ticket sales will be donated to Hospice Southland. More about the event here>>
