Mataura’s Tulloch Park is set to be the heart of this year’s Parks Week celebrations, promising a family-friendly extravaganza dubbed “Tulloch Takeover!” Slated for Saturday, March 2, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the event is packed with free activities designed to delight attendees of all ages.
Participants can look forward to a variety of entertainments including complimentary face painting, a sausage sizzle, pirate-themed dress-up at the playground, vibrant chalk art, basketball, and the engaging Active Southland’s Playler. This year’s event marks a departure from the traditional scavenger hunt format to leverage Tulloch Park’s exceptional amenities like the playground, pump track, and basketball court.
Jessica Swan, Gore District Council’s Senior Events Coordinator, highlighted the park’s facilities as a focal point for this year’s event, offering pirate hats, colorful chalk, basketballs for hoops, and The Big Yellow Paintbox for creative face painting—all at no cost.
Parks Week is celebrated internationally in partnership with Recreation Aotearoa, emphasizing the benefits of parks and open spaces on well-being. Events throughout New Zealand and Australia, from March 2 to March 10, aim to highlight these positive impacts.
Swan expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Active Southland, praising its team’s contribution to a fun-filled event with the Playler, a treasure trove of play items encouraging kids to invent games and enjoy camaraderie.
The community is invited to join the “Tulloch Takeover!” festivities at Tulloch Park for a memorable day of free fun, open to all.
