A 32-year-old man was arrested this morning after attempting to break into a rural property in Motu Rimu, Invercargill.

Police were called to the Motu Rimu Road address at approximately 11:50am after the homeowner spotted the man on their property via their security cameras. Using tools, he attempted to force entry into the house.

Before officers arrived, including a Police Dog Unit, the man fled the scene. A swift response led to his location and arrest in nearby bushland. He is set to appear in the Invercargill District Court tomorrow on a burglary charge.

The case highlights the effectiveness of CCTV, which allowed the homeowner to monitor the unfolding incident and alert Police immediately. "CCTV Footage proved invaluable in this case," said Sergeant Christopher Rigby of Invercargill Police.

Police encourage homeowners, particularly in rural areas, to install security cameras. CCTV systems not only alert property owners to live incidents but also assist in identifying offenders and securing crucial evidence.
