Car Leaves Bridge – Ends Up In Stream South of Mataura

A car has driven off a bridge into a stream south of Mataura. The male driver was taken to Gore Hospital after he crashed into the Waikaka Stream south of Mataura Friday. Fire fighters from Gore & Mataura were called to the crash scene just before 4pm.

Sergeant Clint Wright said the car was travelling north when it left the road, hit a sign and slid 15m down a bank and coming to a stop in the stream.

“He was very, very lucky he didn’t hit the bridge or anything else.”

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
