A body has been found following the capsizing of a vessel near Jacks Bay Bar earlier today. Emergency services were alerted around 10:40 am, prompting an immediate search for one person believed to be missing in the water.
The search involved aerial assistance from a helicopter, as well as water-based efforts by Coastguard Bluff and Coastguard Dunedin volunteers. Despite their swift action, a body, thought to be the missing person, was later found on a nearby beach.
In addition to this tragic discovery, another person who was onboard the vessel was found on nearby rocks and brought safely to shore, along with a dog. The capsized boat has since been recovered from the water.
Police expressed their gratitude to the volunteers and public members who played a role in the rescue operation.
