Everything is coming together for a wonderful day as the Mahi Toi Bluff Arts Group prepares for an art exhibition plus a garden market known as “Bluff – The Introduction Art Exhibition” at the Lighthouse Gallery at 30 Gore Street, (SH1) Bluff this Sunday (21 May).
Group member, Chavah Kinloch says, “the exhibition will showcase some of Southland’s best and brightest artists and artisans, giving our Mahi Toi Bluff Arts group of creatives the platform to put themselves out there, in our first group art exhibition. It is also an opportunity to put on an engaging and fun event with the wider community. Bluff is such a beautiful place. We want to show it off!”
There are a diverse range of artistic media as part of the exhibition with some promising emerging artists from Bluff including Vahnija Kinloch, Erika Bold, Ema Hoeft-Vi, Damon Lewis and Varnya Jane Brown.
They are complemented by more established artists such as Jane Gear, Tanya Dann and Alan Harnett while Chavah Kinloch herself is re-emerging after a 12-year hiatus.
As well as the exhibition of art there are a large number of exciting stallholders who offer a range of wares as part of the garden market. There is lighting made from Kina, antlers and even old car parts, Toi Aroha who sell Maori stick games and cloaks, handmade pottery, personalised gifts, houseplants and seeds. There are local Bluff talents, including a candle maker whose products look and smell so good it is said you will want to eat them, steam punk enthusiasts, and the Bluff Promotions team who have created chocolates in the shape of the iconic Bluff Oyster.
Artists and stall holders are coming from as far afield as Dipton, Gore and Stewart Island for the event.
There will also be a wide array of food trucks suitable for the whole family featuring mini donuts, cotton candy, loaded fries, churro’s and of course coffee.
It all adds up to a wonderful day.
The event will run from 10am to 4pm on the day and promises to be a wonderful introduction to the work of Mahi Toi Bluff Arts.
