The Riverside Speedway will put an explanation mark on what has been an incredible season for the club throughout 2017/18.
The club has hosted two New Zealand Championships, the first for Streetstocks, the second was the first ever Production Saloon Championship, both meetings failing to disappoint big crowds.
Then the club went on to host the Peter Rees Farewell Stockcar Tour, and the Invercargill meeting is still being talked about by the North Island visitors, as one of the best meetings of the season, and the Southern hospitality second to none. Following this meeting was the Sprintcar War Of The Wings which was the first time the club had hosted a big field of Sprintcars for a number of years, and we will see Sprintcars in action next season with the club being awarded the rights to the New Zealand Sprintcar Grand Prix in 2019, which may well feature international drivers.
This Saturdays event will see the final round of the Southern Saloon Series, a series consisting of the South Islands best Saloon drivers battling it out on what has been a tightly contested series. Dunedin’s Mike Verdoner will be tough to beat as he adapts to his new car which has already produced some impressive results. 2NZ Paddy North is also expected to be on show and will provide the benchmark for his fellow Saloon drivers to meet.
Rounding up Saturdays meeting will be the annual Demolition Derby, won last year by Daniel Harpur with a record number of cars, seventy five in total. The club is expecting similar numbers this year.
Racing starts Saturday at 3pm, gates open at 12. This is a family event so strictly no alcohol permitted.
