Also included in the lineup is a 20-man Southern Rumble to crown the next challenger for the NZ championships.
Committee member Kane Bates (aka K-9) said wrestlers will be coming from all over New Zealand for the big event of the year, and was a good opportunity for some of the new guys to perform in front of a large crowd.
SPW delivers hard-hitting, fast-paced independent pro wrestling, and is described as a hybrid of live theatre and breath-taking stunts, with entertaining characters and storylines.
With a crowd of 500 expected at the Workingmen’s Club, the event will also be filmed for the SPW On Demand YouTube channel.
SPW has been going strong for almost 10 years in the south, and next year the club is planning a big anniversary event.
Wrestlers train in the gym five days a week and are in the ring two nights – many come from martial arts backgrounds and are naturally fit and athletic.
JK Moody first started training with Kane (aka K-9) and together they have wrestled overseas, before coming back to now help bring the new guys through.
“Wrestling is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you are big or small, young or old,” he said.
Ranging in ages from 19 to 45, Kane said it was never too late to start wrestling, and it will be interesting to see how Cool Guy Sky matches up with JK Moody – the person who originally showed him the ropes.
JK Moody last won the NZ title back in 2017 and is described as a technical wrestler who puts legitimate holds on his opponents.
