Another massive season of harness racing looms with the announcement of the dates for the 2023/2024 harness racing season.

As it was last year, one of the big features of the new season is the positioning of the Invercargill Cup in December, scheduled for a twilight meeting on Friday 22 December. That date plus the 4.00pm start time is ideal for Christmas break-up functions with tent site options available. The traditional summer racing circuit will again visit Central Otago soon after New Year with meetings at Omakau (2 January), Roxburgh (4 January) and Cromwell (6 January). The Cromwell meeting is hosted by the Wyndham Harness Racing Club each year and as they did last year the club will return to Cromwell for two further meetings on Friday 23 February and Sunday 25 February.

There are a number of twilight meetings on the schedule, particularly over the summer months, giving people the opportunity to come along after work to enjoy those long summer evenings.

The prestigious Diamonds Day takes place at Ascot Park Raceway, Invercargill on Sunday 21 April 2024 while there are several feature events for each club throughout the season.

The season begins on Thursday 10 August with the Winton Harness Racing Club hosting a meeting at Central Southland Raceway in Winton.
