The Wonkey Donkey man will be this year’s guest artist at the annual Invercargill Plunket Teddy Bears Picnic on Sunday.

Community services co-ordinator Judy Cook said Craig Smith has been to a few Teddy Bears’ picnics and was always a hit with all the generations.

The event has been going strong for the past 40 years and held in the Queens Park band rotunda area.  Previously it was held on the Gala Street reserve.

“We enjoy being able to share the day with the Surf to City day, as families can still participate in this and then pop along to our Teddy Bears Picnic afterwards.”

Held between 12 and 2pm, there will also be face painting, Snoopy, Big Blue Bear and Winnie The Pooh, and families are being encouraged to bring along a picnic blanket, their favourite teddy and enjoy some food and entertainment.

This year Plunket will have also be running a barbecue and a raffle, with all money raised going towards supporting Invercargill Plunket Community Services, “so we can continue to provide support and connection for young families in our community.”

Judy said the event attracts over 350 people and could only happen thanks to the support of many volunteers and the ILT and ILT Foundation.

“If weather isn’t great on the day then we will be at the Invercargill Working Mens Club –  if unsure check on Invercargill Plunket Facebook for confirmation on the day.”
