A 17-year-old has been arrested following significant damage to the Te Anau Domain Grounds over the weekend. The damage, which involved a vehicle performing skids, was reported to the police on Sunday, 25 August.
Police investigations quickly led them to the vehicle involved and the young person responsible. The teenager will now face consequences through the youth justice system.
Constable Derek Dudley of Te Anau Police expressed his disappointment, stating, “A lot of money, time and effort go into the upkeep of these grounds, and they should be for everyone to enjoy.” He added, “We won’t tolerate this kind of reckless behaviour and we are glad to have arrested someone so they can be held account.”
Police encourage the community to report any instances of damage or theft. If an incident is in progress, call 111. Otherwise, reports can be made through the 105 service after the fact.
