A 31-year-old Dunedin man is facing several charges after being linked to the burglary of an air ambulance helicopter in Mosgiel.
The incident occurred early on Sunday 12 January, when a rescue helicopter from Queenstown, grounded at the North Taieri base due to poor weather, was broken into. A bag containing essential medical equipment and supplies was stolen during the break-in.
Following investigations, police executed a search warrant at a property in Dunedin on Wednesday 15 January. The man was arrested at the scene and charged with three counts of burglary and two counts of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
Authorities allege that he was also involved in two other burglaries in Dunedin, which took place in the early hours of the same morning. Police have stated that they are continuing enquiries and may lay further charges as the investigation progresses. The suspect is expected to appear in Dunedin District Court today, 16 January.
