The Southland Rams played Canterbury Maori in a South Island premier competition game on Saturday August 24th.The game was played at Elles Road in front of a dedicated crowd.
The Rams carried on their winning form, having already won their two previous games in the competition against West Coast and Aoraki ( South Canterbury). Photos by Dave Loudon Photography.
Half time saw the Rams leading the game with 18 to Nil and they emerged the winners at full time with a score of 38 to 10.
The Rams brought home the Eddie Hei Hei trophy for their supreme efforts. There was two players of the day for the Southland Rams : Dylan Lovett and Junior Toparea.
The Southland Rams travel to Dunedin in two weeks time to challenge the Otago Whalers.
Whoever wins all of the fixtures and takes out the whole South Island competition will then advance to play at Mt Smart Stadium (Auckland) at the NZRL National Championships fixture 5th October 2019. This would be an awesome achievement for the Southland Rams.
It is interesting to note that The Southland Rams does not receive huge amounts of funding – unlike other sports codes, despite being a provincial team that is producing legendary results.
