Sad news from the world of entertainment.
English actor Dennis Waterman passed away over the weekend aged 74.
A statement from his family said “We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Dennis passed away very peacefully in hospital in Spain.”
Dennis had a long, long acting career starting out as a child working his way up through the ranks on the stage, TV and movies.
He is arguably best known for his leading roles the hard nosed 70’s British Police drama The Sweeney alongside the late John Thaw then playing the ex con turned bodyguard / minder and fall guy Terry McCann (Tel) for the dodgy car dealer and wheeler dealer Arthur (Arfar) Daley in the 80’s. Arthur was always running a bit close to the law. One of my fav TV shows of the time.
Waterman went on to star in the comedies On the Up and Stay Lucky, before another popular and long-running role as another Cockney detective in New Tricks, which ran from 2003 to 2015. New Tricks is still playing on UK TV.
Dennis Waterman was also a handy musician writing and performing the theme songs for Minder ( I Could Be So Good For You) and New Tricks.
His last film role was in Never Too Late in 2020, which was filmed in Australia.
I’ve got a feeling that Dennis toured our country a time or two with different stage productions.
We can’t wrap this up without playing Dennis Waterman’s international hit “I Could Be So Good For You.
