Thirty years ago today, a 22-year-old with a dream, a pair of scissors, and a strong work ethic unlocked the doors to what would become a long-standing and much-loved salon. On 29 January 1996, Leanne Cameron officially opened A Streak A Head located in the Gladstone Shopping Centre, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey in the hairdressing industry.
In the early days, Leanne worked alone, building her client base from the ground up. For the first six months, she ran the salon by herself, driven by passion and determination. As the business grew, she took on her first salon assistant, who later progressed into an apprentice—setting the foundation for A Streak A Head’s strong focus on training and mentoring.
After two years in business, the salon reached a significant milestone, relocating to the historic old Trust Bank building, where A Streak A Head proudly operates today. The move symbolised growth, stability, and confidence in the future of the salon.
Over the years, Leanne balanced major life milestones alongside her professional success. After getting married, she employed Darlene in 1999, who remains a valued and loyal member of the team—a true reflection of the salon’s strong culture and sense of family.
Throughout its three decades, A Streak A Head has employed 12 staff members and successfully put seven people through hairdressing apprenticeships, helping shape the next generation of industry professionals. That legacy continues today with Leanne’s youngest daughter, Katie, now working full-time in the salon as a fully qualified hairdresser—a proud and meaningful chapter in the business’s story.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of 30 years of amazing clients. Over time, they have become so much more than appointments in a chair—becoming loyal supporters, familiar faces, and cherished friends. Their trust and loyalty have been the heart of A Streak A Head since day one.
A Streak A Head has also proudly been a De Lorenzo salon for all 30 years—an impressive achievement that reflects a strong commitment to quality and professionalism. During this time, Leanne had the opportunity to meet the original founder of De Lorenzo, an experience she regards as a career highlight.
As A Streak A Head celebrates its 30th anniversary, it stands as a testament to Leanne’s dedication, resilience, and passion. What began as a one-woman dream has grown into a trusted salon built on loyalty, learning, friendship, and lasting relationships—30 years strong, with many more still to come.
