Not long to go now until A Journey Through Fashion hits the stage in a fundraising event for the Wyndham and Districts Historical Society. The event is being held to raise funds for the future care of their collection.
Showcasing 200 years of women’s fashion in New Zealand, it will be a journey through time from crinolines to Crimplene; maxis to minis and everything in between, parading the catwalk at the Wyndham Memorial Hall in Wyndham.
The secrets of Victorian underwear will also be revealed in an eye-opening demonstration of what was hidden under the glorious gowns of the era. Organiser Ange Gibbs said, “I’m pretty happy to be a modern woman who can feel comfortable and free on a daily basis, and not restricted with multiple layers and a tight corset!”
There will also be a demonstration by the Invercargill Rock and Roll Club while showing their fabulous 1950s outfits. In a case of music influencing the fashion of that decade, we’ll discover other, equally strong, influences throughout history, like transport, and subculture movements such as hippies.
If you’re looking for some entertainment on Saturday 17 June, you’ll find it here whilst supporting an important fundraising event as well. Come along dressed in your favourite era to add to the fun atmosphere. A cash bar will be running from 7pm and a continuous supper provided.
