The call is out for the 2024 ILT Southland Sports Awards nominations, marking an impressive 70-year milestone. As New Zealand’s longest-standing sports celebration, these awards, spearheaded by the Southland Amateur Sports Trust and brought to life by Active Southland, aim to ignite the community’s passion, recognizing those who have excelled and those who have uplifted others through sport.
Reflecting on this significant anniversary, Vanessa Hughey-Pol of Active Southland captures the essence of the awards: “This year, we’re not just celebrating current achievements but weaving in the rich tapestry of our history over seven decades.” She adds, “Sport is in our blood. It’s how we express ourselves, overcome challenges, and come together, and these awards are a reflection of that spirit.”
Last year, Amy Rule and Cormac Buchanan were celebrated for their exceptional achievements, setting the stage for this year’s nominees. The awards encompass a wide array of recognitions, from the field to the community, acknowledging every level of contribution.
Nominations are welcomed from all corners of the sporting world until April 17, with the gala set for June 7 at Ascot Park Hotel. For details on how to nominate and to be part of this historic celebration, visit activesouthland.co.nz
