- ILT celebrates funding over 900 scholarships, valuing more than $5 million to date.
Sixty-five Invercargill students have been awarded ILT Tertiary Scholarships, recognising their potential and supporting their next steps in education. An official presentation ceremony was held on Monday night, 4 November, at the Ascot Park Hotel, where recipients gathered to celebrate their achievements and futures.
Each recipient will begin full-time undergraduate studies in 2025, with ILT providing $2,000 per year for the next three years to help cover the costs of their education. Since the scholarship programme’s inception, ILT has awarded over 900 scholarships, representing a financial commitment of more than $5 million.
ILT President Paddy O’Brien spoke to the significance of the initiative, stating, “we have long recognised the value of supporting education and are immensely proud to assist Invercargill’s youth through all stages of their education journey. From the learn to swim programme at primary level, funding Enrich our school for gifted students to the tertiary scholarship initiative.”
Securing an ILT scholarship is a rigorous process for applicants, who must undergo interviews with a panel of three respected adjudicators. The selection process evaluates students across several key areas, including academic performance, dedication to community involvement, and future aspirations. Mr O’Brien noted, “this year’s recipients stood out across all of those categories and more. Our sincere congratulations go to all the recipients, we are incredibly proud to help them achieve their dreams.”
