Southland Rugby League – Statement on 14s Grand Final The Southland Rugby League District Board strongly condemns the incidents that occurred during and following the 2025 U14s Grand Final. These actions do not reflect the values, spirit, or mana of the game, and will not be tolerated.
An Independent Judiciary Panel has thoroughly reviewed the events and issued appropriate sanctions, including suspensions and life bans, in accordance with SZRL & NZRL Judiciary Guidelines. - Life Bans for three individuals - Two Year Suspension for one individual - One Year suspension for one individual Additionally, two individuals will be required to complete the necessary educational programs should they wish to participate in rugby league in the future.
The Board supports these decisions, including the revoking of the 14s Grand Final title (no title will be awarded in 2025) to uphold the integrity of the competition. Southland Rugby League is committed to ensuring that rugby league remains safe, inclusive, and respectful for all participants.
Operational practices are being reviewed, and education and support programs will be implemented for clubs, volunteers, and officials to reinforce these standards. No further comment will be provided on this matter.
