The sound of bagpipes was ringing out across Invercargill yesterday (Friday 13th) and continues today, as Invercargill and the ILT City of Invercargill Highland Pipe Band plays host to the 2020 Pipe On In New Zealand Championships.

Pipe bands from across the country, including Invercargill, will be descending upon the Southland Cricket Grounds, performing in front of a panel of judges from throughout New Zealand and two from Scotland.

Juvenile Grade 3 and Grade 4 pipe bands will perform today, while Grade 1 and 2, along with Mace Flourishing competitors, will perform on Saturday. Entry to the grounds is $10 for an adult, and children 16 and under are free.

A street march will also take place on Saturday, leaving from Leet & Kelvin Streets at 9am and traveling to Gala Street to finish at Queens Park. Prizegiving will be held at the Southland Cricket Club from 5.30pm.
