Talented musician Jenny Mitchell has had a year she will forever remember and the Invercargill public will get a rare chance to celebrate with her in October.
Mitchell was this year named Southland’s Entertainer of the Year and not long after was crowned the New Zealand Gold Guitar winner.
“This year has certainly been a year of dreams. I have had the opportunity to work with some awesome people and I am so proud of what we’ve packed into 2017,” Mitchell said.
“It was so humbling to win Southland Entertainer of the Year when the other finalists were so experienced and are artists that I look up to in the Southland music industry”.
“I truly have no words to describe the pride that both my family and I have for winning a New Zealand Gold Guitar – I’ll never forget the 4th of June 2017”.
“The magic part of both awards was that they were won with an original song”.
“That’s something that is so important to me and it made the wins feel like I really won them for being me – not for trying to be anyone else”.
“But alongside those awesome awards, I’ve played more shows than ever and have been so lucky to meet some wonderful new friends along the way – that’s the best part of all this. The people”.
“Balancing all that chaos with first year of uni has been a struggle at times, but it’s been really rewarding to follow my passion for music while also pursuing my degree and studying subjects that I love.”
The Gold Guitar honour has opened plenty of doors for Mitchell and has helped build the busy schedule ahead.
“I’m super excited to release a new single very soon. It’s a catchy little number that I thought would be perfect for our kiwi summer and I can’t wait to share it with you all,” Mitchell said.
“I’m really looking forward to showcasing my new music at a headline show on October 6th in Invercargill and also at a show in Gore in November – date to be confirmed.
“Both shows will have a full band with me which I don’t get to do very often so you don’t want to miss these ones.”
Mitchell has teamed up with MASSAV Productions to play the celebration gig in Invercargill on Friday, October 6.
“I’m lucky that my music has taken me to all corners of New Zealand, but there’s nothing quite like playing to a home crowd.
“I can’t wait to share my new writing and show off my beyond fantastic band to Southland.
“The show will include some of my older material, some that’s never been heard before and a few of my favourite covers too.
“I’d say the sound to expect is a really warm, folky vibe – with its feet still firmly planted in country of course.
“We’ve been working really hard to put a show together that we know you’ll love and I truly hope to see you there.”
MASSAV Productions is an Invercargill-based organisation who brings quality entertainment to the city.
Part of their quest is to also help promote Southland’s best talent and that was a key reason in working with Mitchell to put on the celebration gig in October.MASSAV Productions director Blair Savory is predicting a very bright future ahead for Mitchell.
“Jenny is an amazing talent who has had a fantastic year and has an amazing future ahead. “Not only is Jenny a fantastic singer and guitar player, her songwriting talents are truly world class. “With a lot more hard work and a little bit of luck, Jenny could be the next international artist to originate from the Deep South. “This is a rare chance for the Invercargill public to watch her perform live with her band in what is a very busy schedule for Jenny.”
