The Bluff Oyster Fringe Festival is back with a range of exciting activities planned for Bluff during the week of 17-23 May.

From an open mic night, a bike scavenger hunt, a play trail, a fabulous fashion show and art competitions all with a nautical theme there is something for everyone. Planning is in full swing but an exciting week will result to provide a diverse choice of activities around the Bluff Oyster & Food Festival for both visitors to the town and locals to enjoy.

First held in 2019 the event could not take place last year due to Alert Level restrictions but this year with the Oyster Festival scheduled for Saturday 22 May and a sell-out crowd ready to descend on the port town the Fringe Festival is back on the calendar.

Entries for the nautical themed fashion show opened on Wednesday 24 March and close on Monday May 3 with garments required to be in by Friday 7 May. The cost is $10.00 per entry. To request an entry form and full details contact [email protected] There are several categories including Open – which includes conventional materials – Wearable Art where anything goes, Junior for primary school students and School for high school students. Both the Junior and School categories can use either conventional materials or wearable art.

Once entries are in the fashion shows are scheduled for Wednesday 19 May, Thursday 20 May and Sunday 23 May at the Bluff Town Hall with the doors opening at 5.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday ready for a 6.00pm start and at 10.30am Sunday ready for an 11.00am start. Admission is just $5 with door sales only. The admission cost will contribute to the category prize money and any excess will be donated to one of Bluff’s trusts or community groups and will stay within the community.

The Oyster Fringe Festival Art Exhibition will also have a nautical theme. For students there are primary and secondary sections and works can be on paper or any media either of A4 or A5 size with a range of themes – The World is My Oyster, Boats In Bluff or Southern Sea Creatures. These will be displayed at Oyster Allsorts premises in Bluff and winners will be voted by people’s choice. The students section also incorporates a decorated oyster shell (single shell only) and oyster shell décor.

Other sections include Art From Bluff which is open to all Bluff-based artists and allows any media and any theme plus Art About Bluff which is open to all artists of any age and covers photography, painting, sculpture and carving.

Get ready for a great week with more details to come in the coming weeks.
