20th Stead Cup title for Robyn Boniface

Robyn Boniface has brought up a remarkable 20 Stead Cup titles, after once again winning the prestigious tournament at Queens Park last week.

The tournament, which dates back 102 years, is one of the oldest sporting competitions in Southland. Last week’s tournament attracted 65 ladies, and was hotly contested.

In the silver division, Robyn Pellow (Ngaruawahia) was the top qualifier with rounds of 75 and 76, but it was Boniface who came through in the final to win 1 up and notch her milestone title.

In the bronze division, the Amateur Sports Trust Cup was won by Pam Macleod (Drummond), who defeated Invercargill’s Heather Chadderton 4/3 in the final. Linda Suddaby was top qualifier with rounds of 94 and 97.

The silver flight was won by Winton’s Nikki Hume and the silver plate winner was Maria Arhanic (Arrowtown). The bronze flight was won by Drummond’s Faye Dudfield and the bronze plate winner was Dipton’s Paddy Craig.

In other results, the Queens Park Handicap was won by Winton’s Janet Anderson, the Ida Barron Trophy went to Lyn Lindsay (Queens Park), and the American Foursomes Division 1 winners were Kaye-Maree Mihaljevich (Te Ngutu) and Raewyn Hartley (Invercargill).

Toro Interprovincial

Southland’s senior men’s golf team has swung into the national interprovincial tournament at Whitford Park Golf Club in Auckland this week.

The team includes Matt Tautari, Tyler McLean, Liam Hewitt, Liam Balneaves and Rob Mainland and Doug Carmichael is reserve/manager.

Southland teed off its 2020 national campaign on Tuesday with a draw with Bay of Plenty. Balneaves and Mainland both got wins for Southland and McLean squared his match.

The afternoon round saw the team get a valuable 3-2 win over North Harbour, with McLean, Hewitt and Balneaves all winning.

Yesterday the team played Auckland and Hawkes Bay, today it will tee off against Waikato and tomorrow Poverty Bay-East Coast.

Bowmont Meats 4BBB Stableford

Southland’s female golfers will get another chance to tee off in a competitive tournament environment next week.

The Golf Southland Bowmont Meats 4BBB Stableford will tee off at 10.30am at Invercargill Golf Club on November 30. The tournament is usually well supported, and organisers remain grateful for the ongoing support of sponsor, Bowmont Meats.
