Champion of Champions

Golf Southland’s Champion of Champions tournament was played at Greenacres last week.

Robyn Boniface (Queens Park) played a very consistent two rounds to win the overall title with two rounds of 75, over runner up Robyn Pullar (Invercargill) with rounds of 81 and 79.

The net aggregate winner was Lenore Harvey over Robyn Boniface.

Heather Chadderton (Invercargill) took out the bronze division title, with two rounds of 91, over runner-up Lynley Burgess (Queens Park) with rounds of 91 and 93.

Barbara Wilson (Winton) was the net aggregate winner over Linda Suddaby (Queens Park).

Gross Stableford Rosebowl

The Queens Park team of Robyn Boniface, Linda Suddaby and Helen Ischia will have their score of 128 submitted to New Zealand golf, after winning the local version of the national gross stableford rosebowl competition.

Local scores go to NZ Golf, who determine overall winners.

Runners-up in the local edition were the Invercargill team of Robyn Pullar, Heather Chadderton and Pat Forde who had a score of 113.

Stead Cup

The prestigious Stead Cup is up for grabs this week, with finals being played at Queens Park today.

The tournament teed off on Tuesday with 65 players in the field.

The three-day Stead cup was first contested back in 1919 as was played as a strokeplay event through until 1973 when it changed to matchplay.

Primary School Tournaments

The Golf Southland primary school zone tournaments wrapped up this week with the Northern zone tournament played at Mossburn on Monday.

The winning team was Dipton 1 (Harrison George, Zara Orr, Tessa Orr and Leo Cameron), runners-up were William Heenan, Travis Mann, Frennzie Mendoza and Fergus Dillon and third was Riversdale 1 (Sam Smaill, Lachie Smith, Lykan Eaton and Amelia Nicholson).

It has been fantastic seeing so many young golfers having so much fun at the zone tournaments; the final is coming up at Drummond later this month.
