Flashback Friday

Today we travel back to 3rd February 1983, E.T. and The Man from Snowy River were on at the movies, a fire gutted Broad Small department store and one side of J T Sharp & Sons building that morning. Flames soared into the air and smoke billowed over the city centre.

The Fire Brigade were called at 2:30am and an hour later the fire was still raging fiercely.

Invercargill City Library now sits on the old Broad Small site.
