THE FAREWELL | Directed by Lulu Wang United States 2019 | 1 hour 40 minutes | English, Mandarin | M
Based in-part of her own experiences, writer-director Lulu Wang’s film has received critical acclaim for its screenplay, direction and performances since its premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. THE FAREWELL follows a family who decides to keep their beloved grandmother in the dark about her terminal cancer diagnosis and instead stage an impromptu wedding to see her one last time. Heartfelt and poignant, this is a film that captures complicated family dynamics and universally relatable themes.
