Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D.759, ‘Unfinished’
Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33
Turanga-nui (World Premiere)
Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune
Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture
NZSO Associate Conductor Hamish McKeich leads the orchestra on a country-wide tour, presenting a Classical Hits programme for the whole family. Gillian Whitehead completes our series of commissions to acknowledge the future landfall celebrations. NZSO’s Andrew Joyce features as soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme – Tchaikovsky’s most famous piece for cello. Schubert’s ‘Unfinished’ Symphony – which combines romantic, lyrical impulses with dark melancholic undertones – is instantly recognisable. We also feature Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, two works that never lose their power to bewitch audiences.
