What’s in the Mataura River that’s worth protecting and caring for? Find out at the ‘Mataura River Clean Up Walk’ this Saturday, September 14th. Along with the Gore District Youth Council, Hokonui Runanga Inc, Southland Fish & Game and the Gore Catchment Group, we’re providing an interactive morning that includes a demonstration of fyke netting and electric fishing; we’ll show you some quick ways of testing water; you can join others on a rubbish collection walk along the riverbank to keep the river clean; and there’s a FREE BBQ lunch at the end. The event kicks off at 10.30am at Walnut Grove (off Woolwich St) and finishes around 1pm at the Mataura River Bridge. This is an all-weather event so remember to dress for the conditions on the day, including suitable footwear, and bring gloves if you’re helping to pick up rubbish. See you there!
