Entries are now open for this year’s ICC Surf to City.

The ICC Surf to City is Southland’s largest participation event, regularly attracting about 3000 walkers, runners, and cyclists.

This year’s event, run by Sport Southland, will be held on Sunday March 14.

Taking in some of Invercargill’s premier locations, the ICC Surf to City is a fantastic opportunity to get active, have some fun, take on a challenge, and enjoy some of the scenic sights and sounds of Invercargill.

It is also a prime opportunity for families, friends, and workmates to get active together.

Sport Southland Chief Executive Brendon McDermott said the ICC Surf to City was one of the region’s key community events, and as such, had enjoyed a long history of popularity.

“Thousands of people regularly line up to take part in one of the three categories – the 12km walk/bike/run, the 6km walk/bike/run, or the 3km walk/bike/run – but there are so many people out there who haven’t given this fantastic event a go yet. We are really hoping this might be the year for those people.”

“This event really does have it all – not only are you able to have fun and get active, but with the finish line at Queen’s Park, Invercargill’s premier park, the atmosphere is really welcoming and relaxed at the finish. There are food trucks, entertainment, activities for the kids, and, of course, a cheer squad of spectators welcoming everyone across the line.”

Being active had huge benefits for people’s physical and mental wellbeing, and promoting, supporting, and encouraging people to be physically active every day was a focus of the work done by Sport Southland.

“We know that being active has huge benefits for our physical and mental wellbeing, but it is also an excellent opportunity for people to challenge themselves and, perhaps, try something new.”

“We love that so many of our community are keen to get in and give this great event a go. We especially love seeing families being active together, and the smiles on faces as they cross the finish line.”

Buses will be available to take people out to the Oreti Beach, Dunns Road, and Bond Street starting points.

Entering the event is super easy. Just head to https://www.sporty.co.nz/iccsurftocity/ and follow the prompts.
